The Early Bird

What a nice day! I had a great walk with Tracy after our Friday mocha scone at Great Harvest. We ordered two dozen to freeze just in case they don't carry them next month! We likes us our chocolate!

I came home afterwards and admired my new tree in the front yard. Our family really wanted a Birch such as we had in our old house but I just couldn't find the right kind. It is an older species they don't carry in nurseries anymore. I then fell in love with what I had thought was a Magnolia. I couldn't find that one in the nurseries either and thought it mighty strange that none of the Magnolia had the large heart-shaped leaves of the tree I had in mind. Tracy and I spent an entire morning driving through alleyways hoping to find a little one we could dig up and take home. Tracy finally suggested that we try the city arborist (didn't know there was such a thing). That was when I discovered that the tree I wanted was a Catalpa! I found one at the local nursery and brought it home feeling quite victorious! It is in the front yard now and I never get tired of seeing it. I hope it fares well. This year I have added the Catalpa and a Dwarf Mackintosh to the Autumn Blaze Maple I planted last year. At last my yard feels like a home with lots of flowers and trees.

Last year I went to Greek Fest totally unsuspecting. I came a day late and a dollar short of getting the two things I wait all year for-chicken and baklava. I was very disappointed to say the least. They did get more of both but they were things that were thrown together at the last minute and were not made by the usual people. In short, not as good by any measure. This year I was, as with the tree, victorious! I went early and enjoyed authentic chicken and baklava! All in all, a fabulous day!
